Shtil chainsaw oil: feeder, selection criteria

Undoubtedly, every chainsaw owner knows how important good and high-quality oil is. And, probably, there is no need to say that this is a kind of “life force” of this device for producing full-fledged and effective work. Today there is a huge number of oils and, as they say, there is plenty to choose from.

But, unfortunately, not every owner of this type of electrical equipment knows what oil to use for his iron friend so that the operation of the chainsaw is not only easy, but also productive. Therefore, in this article we will consider the issue regarding the correct choice of the manufacturer of the calm. And also, what it should be in order to help the chainsaw during its immediate activity, and not harm. So let's get started.

How to dilute the components of the mixture

As mentioned above, gasoline and oil should be diluted in a specially prepared container.
You shouldn't do this in a gas tank. The latest technology will cause some of the oil to enter the carburetor. As a result, you will have to disassemble the engine and wash it. Standard dilution ratios are 50:1 and 40:1. Such a mixture will not interfere with the combustion of gasoline in the gas tank and will improve the lubrication of the rubbing parts of the mechanism. When running in a new tool, it is advisable to add twenty percent more lubricant. It is recommended to dilute with a large amount of oil in areas with high air temperatures.

Many owners will be interested in information about how to dilute gasoline with oil if there is no measuring container. A twenty cc medical syringe is suitable for this. Although most often measuring containers are included with chainsaws.

Before diluting the fuel, it is necessary to clean and degrease the neck of the gas tank. It is advisable to fill through a filter. Any rag will serve as a filter

After use, the remaining mixture must be drained and disposed of. Remember that it is better to overfill than underfill. What will happen if you do not take into account the recommendations, read below.

If you do not follow the instructions, you can render the tool inoperative. For example, if you do not dilute the fuel, then carbon deposits will form more often, the necessary lubrication of the pistons will not occur, which will result in an increase in the temperature in the engine. And this will lead to the pistons breaking. Or the owner of the saw will inhale toxic fumes in large quantities throughout the entire operation. Thus, he will develop health problems and break the instrument.

Mixing oil and gasoline

If you use low-quality lubricant and fuel, they can also lead to engine damage. It is not recommended to dilute motor oil made for cars. Fuel must be purchased with a high octane number.

Lubricant selection criteria

After purchasing the device, the question may arise about choosing oil to fill the Stihl chainsaw. After all, proper care of equipment increases its performance and saves you from all kinds of breakdowns. The performance of the saw directly depends on the use of good fuel and lubricant.

Stihl chainsaws have a carburetor two-stroke engine and 2 tanks (gasoline and oil). To choose the right oil for a Stihl saw, you need to know its criteria:

  1. It is necessary to determine the manufacturer , because in domestic models they use simple oils (for motorcycles) in a ratio of 1 to 25, and foreign ones use branded lubricant products in a ratio of 1 to 40 (proportions of oil to gasoline). In fact, the owners themselves determine which one to use. You should be prepared that improper use will result in a decrease in power and productivity. Most people use motor oil; if not, then transmission oil. Experts advise using the latter for this manufacturer.
  2. You need to know the color. For chainsaws with a two-stroke engine, red, green, and blue colors are suitable.
  3. Compound.

Oil dosage in Chinese version

Many Chinese-made chainsaws are simplified copies of popular European-designed models. The lack of special materials and proprietary technologies contributes to the preservation of the outdated proportion of gasoline and oil in the ratio of 25:1.

The doubling of engine oil consumption is compensated by its lower cost. According to the developers, original components are introduced into Chinese oils that help increase the wear resistance of power units and actually extend their designated service life.

According to independent experts, the best brands of Chinese motor lubricants correspond in quality to analogues from European manufacturers in the mid-price range. This is the level of branded motor oils of the Standard group and partially Super.

The role of oil in the operation of a chainsaw

In order to understand the role lubricants play, it is necessary to have a general idea of how the device operates. Although in a store, when purchasing, they usually say a few words about what it is and how it works, and which neck to pour what into, it would be useful to update simple information on this issue.

Engine oil

Without exception, all chainsaws, like their fellow lawn mowers and cultivators, are equipped with two-stroke engines. With small sizes they develop high power density. Due to the completion of the working cycle in two strokes, the speed of such engines also exceeds that of automobile engines. On the other hand, there is a heavy load on components and parts, air cooling, which also requires a safety margin in the design. The wear of elements can be reduced only by using high-quality lubricants.

A feature of two-stroke engines is the absence of an oil pan and a pump that would deliver liquid lubricant to all rubbing and interacting parts. The advantage of this scheme is its design simplicity, fewer units in the engine. On the other hand, the question arises of how to deliver lubricant to critical places, of which the most demanding are the cylinder and piston.

The solution was to add oil to the fuel. Gasoline is not poured into the saw tank in its pure form, but with the addition of lubricant in a certain proportion. Before entering the combustion chamber, this mixture washes the necessary components, and then exits the exhaust manifold in the form of exhaust gases.

Chain oil

A chain for a chainsaw is no less important than the engine.
For full and long-term operation, it also requires lubrication. Without it, the metal will very quickly begin to overheat, and then cease to perform its functions altogether. In addition, the oil supplied to the chain facilitates its movement when pulled through solid wood. By reducing resistance, you can achieve not only long chain life, but also reduce the load on the engine and reduce fuel consumption. At the same time, chain oil has fundamentally different characteristics from that which is mixed with gasoline.

Types of oils

When deciding which oil to use for a chainsaw chain, you should first of all follow the recommendations of the tool manufacturer. Of course, the best lubricant is original oil. If it is unavailable, you can use ordinary automotive lubricant.

Which oil to use for a chainsaw depends on its future use, and the classification of the lubricant depends on the composition. It is divided into groups:

  • Synthetics.
  • Semi-synthetic.
  • Mineral.

Synthetic brands can withstand temperatures of minus 40 degrees. Semi-synthetic products operate in the average temperature range (-30 - +25 degrees). Sometimes manufacturers add special additives to its composition to improve the characteristics of a lubricating product. They change the properties of the oil, making it possible to select a lubricant that suits future operating conditions. Depending on the engine type of the tool, oil consumption occurs. In a four-stroke engine, the combustion chamber has a special design. Therefore, there are no traces of soot left in it. To achieve a similar effect in a two-stroke engine, you have to fill in special oil

It is very important that the fuel matches the lubricant

Chainsaw sprocket lubricant

To increase the life of the sprocket and also reduce the friction force, the manufacturer installs a needle bearing. For its periodic lubrication, Shtil chainsaw oil is used.

Which chainsaw parts need oil?

If you look closely at a working chainsaw, you will immediately notice its main moving part - the saw chain, which slides along the bar while sawing. Since the law of friction still exists, both parts will gradually wear out. To slow down this process, it is common to use chain oil specifically designed for lubricating saw chains.

Chainsaws can be equipped with both four-stroke and two-stroke engines. For 4-stroke units, the crank group is lubricated with oil located in the engine crankcase. Two-stroke engines differ slightly in their design and operating principle. In this type of drive, gasoline flows directly into the space under the piston, where the crank mechanism is located, which has several bearings and bushings that need lubrication. Therefore, oil for two-stroke chainsaw engines is added to gasoline so that when it gets on the rubbing parts of this unit, it lubricates them.

Chainsaw Shtil 180 Which Oil to Fill

Chainsaw

. What kind of oil is used to lubricate the chain?

Chainsaws. A popular tool for those who deal with numerous household chores. They can be used for different purposes. collect firewood, trim dry branches. But in order for the device to last as long as possible, it is necessary to take proper care of it by choosing the right different connections. A special role is played by chain saw oil, which is selected depending on the principles of the tool and its characteristics.

What to count?

Proper care should be taken when lubricating chain saws. , you should choose special oil that will not damage the oil pump

In addition, this will ensure high-quality operation of the self-lubricating system. The chain requires proper storage, i.e. immersion in oil, and if worn, do not attempt it. it is easier to replace. What is the best chain oil that is safe and meets all requirements?

Types and composition

The choice of specific oil depends on where and how the chainsaw operates. Mineral compounds are suitable for the summer and warm seasons. In other cases, it is better to use synthetic or semi-synthetic oils. If it is necessary to lubricate the chain, there is no need to use waste oils, which will clog the fuel system and then cause serious damage to the tool.

The chainsaw oil must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure that the lubricant is applied correctly and accurately. If you use poor-quality connections, there will be no contact between the saw elements and the bars, sparks will appear, and then the moving parts of the saw will wear out.

How to choose?

Each chainsaw has a two-stroke carburetor engine and two tanks: one filled with gasoline, the second. oil. When choosing a lubricant composition, zoning plays an important role. it should be minimal. Another important indicator is resistance to low temperatures: the oil should not freeze at extreme temperatures, which will ensure the quality of the entire tool.

For lubrication, it is recommended to use adhesive chain oil containing special substances that allow the composition to adhere well to the chain. High-quality oil will remain on the chain as it rotates, and the chain itself will be more reliable in operation.

Another important indicator of a lubricant is density: if the composition is liquid, it will be consumed in large quantities

To avoid harm to the environment, it is important to use vegetable oil when using a chainsaw. its waste will decompose in the natural environment

Which chainsaw oil should you choose because modern manufacturers offer a wide range of options? Among the specialized manufacturers, we can mention such brands as Divinol, Bio-Kettenol, Ravenol, VegOil, Mobil, Castrol, Shell. Let's take a closer look at the features of their products.

Divinol

This brand offers high quality chain lube that has good adhesive and lubrication properties, so that the lubrication is done efficiently and the hinges and chain loops are reliably protected from wear. The optimal combination of viscosity and temperature characteristics guarantees that this oil can be used at any time of the year and at any temperature.

Choosing chain oil

After each refueling of the chainsaw with the fuel mixture, do not forget to check the amount of oil in the oil tank. In a chainsaw, an oil pump delivers lubricant to the bar along which the saw chain slides. Normally, both tanks - fuel and oil - should be refilled at the same time. Oil for lubricating the chain must be poured into the appropriate tank up to the neck. Otherwise, it may run out before the fuel, which will lead to overheating of the chain and bar.

Chainsaw chain oil must be formulated specifically for this purpose. The use of other lubricants is ineffective and reduces the service life of not only the saw, but also the unit tire. This is explained by the fact that chain oil contains adhesive additives, thanks to which the lubricant literally “sticks” to the chain. This property of the oil reduces its consumption, as a result of which the lubrication of the chainsaw bar and saw chain improves, and their service life increases.

Another important parameter of chain lubrication is its thickness. If you are going to use a lubricant that is not intended for chainsaws, you may notice that oil leaks while the unit is running or after it stops. This fact indicates that the lubricant is too liquid. In addition, the liquid lubricant will quickly scatter in all directions and, accordingly, quickly run out.

When operating a chainsaw in winter, it is necessary to use oil designed for low temperatures to lubricate the chain, otherwise the oil pump will fail. Therefore, the lubricant remaining in the tank must be replaced with low-temperature lubricant.

Leading manufacturers of gas powered tools, such as Shtil, Husqvarna, Makita, Bosch and chainsaw component manufacturer Oregon, recommend the use of special highly adhesive oils, including biodegradable ones. But oils from well-known brands have the only drawback - the price is 300 rubles per 1 liter and more. In addition, the lubricant in the reservoir can thicken over time and clog the channels. For this reason, it has to be drained, and this already increases consumption. But despite this, we have to admit the fact that only the use of special lubricants can extend the life of the chainsaw.

Chainsaw oil ROLF Garden 2T

The oil is produced on a synthetic base, which ensures the highest quality. Therefore, ROLF Garden 2T has low smoke, burns completely and with extremely low soot. At the same time, it reliably protects the engine from wear, since it has a balanced additive package. When the engine runs for a long time on the ROLF Garden 2T, rapid contamination of the muffler with carbon deposits and products of incomplete combustion of oil, which reduce the power of the chainsaw, is eliminated.

The oil was developed specifically for garden equipment, where the main method of lubrication is a ready-made fuel mixture. This was taken into account when creating ROLF Garden 2T, and the product achieved excellent stability when mixed with gasoline. The finished composition during storage prevents delamination and clogging of carburetor channels. The oil does not reduce the octane number of gasoline and eliminates the risk of detonation under load.

Due to its low freezing point, ROLF Garden 2T is also ideal for winter work, which maintains the efficiency of engine lubrication with the fuel mixture. The oil burns well in the engine, reducing the risk of spark plug failure. In this way, the amount of maintenance required for the chainsaw can be kept to a minimum.

The quality of the oil is confirmed by approvals from the largest chainsaw manufacturers. In addition, ROLF Lubricants GmbH offers a simple and effective anti-counterfeit system: all of the company's products are packaged only in tin containers. As practice shows, counterfeit goods are practically never found on the market under such conditions: for manufacturers of counterfeits, packaging in plastic is more profitable.

Choosing engine oil

Oil intended for 2-stroke engines must meet the following requirements.

  1. The lubricant should produce a minimum of ash during combustion. Ideally, it should burn completely.
  2. The lubricant must have good solubility in gasoline and a high degree of purification from various impurities that can cause clogging of very narrow carburetor channels.
  3. The oil must have high anti-corrosion, anti-wear and lubricating qualities.

There are certain standards for oils intended for 2-stroke engines: TC-W3 and 2T. Lubricant that meets the TC-W3 standard is used for water-cooled engines (outboard motors, jet skis). 2T oil is used as an additive to gasoline for 2-stroke air-cooled engines (petrol mowers, mopeds, chainsaws, etc.).

MOTUL Outboard Tech 2T oil

Oils can be green, red or blue in color. This is done so that their presence in gasoline can be easily determined.

If low-quality lubricant is used, the entire piston group of the engine may fail due to the formation of carbon deposits under the piston rings. As a result, they will not be able to compress, and scoring will form on the cylinder walls. Also, improper lubrication of the bearings of the crank mechanism leads to their overheating and, ultimately, to jamming. Important: using diesel oil to prepare the fuel mixture is prohibited, since it does not meet any of the parameters mentioned above.

Proportions for Swedish Husqvarna chainsaws

What exact rate of lubricant is required to prepare the combustible mixture necessary for the normal operation of a two-stroke gasoline internal combustion engine? Buyers will learn about this from the instructions supplied with the product. But documentation is often lost among papers. In this regard, it would be useful to remember that manufacturers use transmission lubricant for mixing with gasoline. The Swedish company is known on all continents of the planet for supplying reliable goods to trade markets. Oil for Husqvarna chainsaws is strictly recommended by the manufacturer.

Depending on how much power is required to be obtained from the units, select the appropriate component dilution:

Along the way, we inform you that only unleaded gasoline of the AI-92 or AI-95 brands is used. A leaded combustible product is considered a poor choice for internal combustion engines, as it shortens the engine's service life.

Structure company of Husqvarna HP

The brand structure of the Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna HP includes a company that produces mechanized hand tools and lubricants for them, and effective chemical additives.

Chainsaw manufacturer Partner has developed an original ratio of fuel and oil for two-stroke power plants:

There are moments of non-compliance with the standard approach to dilution with a lubricant product of the company’s own production. This is when the internal combustion engine goes through the break-in stage. The fuel mixture allowed for the engine is 1:40.

Oil does not flow to the chain, what are the reasons?

It is not always possible during operation to immediately see that oil is not supplied to the chainsaw chain. Signs of lack of lubrication:

  • the level in the tank does not decrease;
  • cutting is difficult, accompanied by the smell of burnt wood;
  • Oil droplets do not fly off the tip of the chainsaw bar.

Having discovered a malfunction in the oil system, you need to determine its cause. There are a few of them - clogging, a broken hose or a malfunction of the oil pump.

Most often, the oil supply channel becomes clogged with dirt and sawdust. Blowing with air or cleaning with a thin wire is enough to eliminate the problem. The oil tank has its own internal filter. When using normal oil, it is unlikely that it will become clogged, but when it is filled with oil, it is quite possible. Will have to clean it up.

The oil hose may be damaged or completely broken. You can temporarily seal the damaged area, but it will be safer to replace it with a new one.

And the most serious problem is a breakdown of the oil pump. The reasons may be different - the teeth of the worm gear have worn out, the plunger has jammed, etc. Removing the pump and replacing the damaged part yourself will not be easy. It is safer and easier to contact a service center.

Storage

If the saw will not be in use for a long time, for example in winter, then clean it before putting it away; Lubricate the sprocket on the bar and the chain with oil. It is also necessary to drain the gasoline from the tank. In this way, we will protect the tool from damage, since 2-stroke oil has its own expiration date and, when mixed with gasoline, loses its properties over time. If you start the saw after six months, the engine will suffer significant wear.

After the saw has been idle for a long time, it is necessary to fill it with fresh fuel mixture. Old diluted gasoline from last season must be disposed of.

Compliance with these simple maintenance rules can significantly extend the life of your unit.

Recommendations for choosing oil

There is no clear answer to which oil is best for a chainsaw, since the market is oversaturated with lubricants for 2-stroke engines. But, according to reviews from experienced craftsmen, it is still better to trust lubricants from well-known manufacturers, such as Oregon, Shtil, Champion, Husqvarna. By purchasing oils from these brands, you can extend the life of your tool and provide maximum engine protection.

Please note that there are counterfeits of well-known brands on sale, and if you buy them, you can ruin your chainsaw. Therefore, lubricants must be purchased only from official dealers who have product certificates.

Chainsaw chain lubricant, according to some users, can be replaced with any mineral oil with a viscosity of 15-40 for the summer and with an index of 10-30 for the cold season. The brand can be M8 or M10. Also, many chainsaw owners are beginning to wonder whether it is possible to replace 2-stroke oil with something. Experienced craftsmen strongly advise against adding other lubricants to gasoline, since you can completely damage the engine of the unit, the repair of which will cost as much money as you will not save on lubrication. Moreover, if you do the math, one liter of oil is enough to produce 50 liters of fuel mixture, which can only be consumed by working in a logging site.

Mixture proportion for “Calm”

The German family company Stihl has production facilities in many countries around the world. The office is located in Waiblingen. Among the range of products produced for the needs of forestry, small-scale mechanization equipment takes pride of place.

Today a liquid golden age has arrived for the Stihl chainsaw:

The calculation is simple. We know that 1 liter of flammable liquid equals 1000 milliliters. Divide the value by 50, we get 20 milliliters of oil. Using a similar algorithm, its volume is determined, recommended in a ratio of 1:40. Having made simple calculations, we get the value of 25 milliliters.

How to distinguish fake Shtil oil

Criminals do not miss the opportunity to make money by selling counterfeit products from a well-known brand. Stihl oil is no exception. Most often you can find fake Shtil HP, because its sales volumes are the highest of the entire line of Shtil lubricants.

In order to distinguish a fake from the original, the Shtil company released a special brochure, which recorded all the main differences between the original and the fake.

We also invite you to watch a video that shows, using a specific example, what a package of high-quality Shtil oil should look like and how to distinguish a fake.

What happens if you don't follow the manufacturer's recommendations?

In case of violation of the rules for the manufacture of fuel and lubricant mixtures and non-compliance with the proportions when adding oil to gasoline on the Stihl 180 chainsaw; The following difficulties arise:

  • As friction increases, wear on the working surfaces of parts increases.
  • An insufficient amount of lubricant will lead to bearing failure.
  • The full functioning of mechanical components is disrupted due to early wear of parts, their service life is significantly reduced.
  • When using low-grade gasoline and oils, the performance of the unit decreases with the following breakdown of key components and parts.

Fuel is prepared before refueling the saw, avoiding unnecessary contact with oxygen. After finishing the work, the remaining mixture must be drained.

How to replace expensive oil

The disadvantage of special branded chain lubricants is their high price. Buying a liter of another expensive oil is not burdensome. And if there is work to be done that requires several liters, or even tens of liters, thoughts about saving will probably arise. The main thing is not to go to extremes when considering options. You can save on oil to such an extent that you will have to change the chain several times, or even the tire itself or the oil pump.

There are three replacement options. Firstly, you can use specialized products from little-known manufacturers to lubricate the chain. But we still need to look for such oils. In addition, there is a risk of stumbling upon a low-quality product.

Application of oils for automobile engines. They can be used as a temporary replacement, but they cannot boast of high adhesion, so the quality of their work will be clearly worse than special ones. For this reason, it is not recommended to use spindle and diesel oils - the worst in terms of adhesion.

And we definitely need to talk about one more option - working out. This is the name of oil that has spent its life in the engine and is drained from it when replaced.

In fact, this is not an option at all. Metal particles are always present in the waste. And if they may not damage the chain itself, then they certainly will not damage the oil pump and the entire lubrication system. On forums on the Internet you can find a “killer” argument in favor of testing - that the Soviet chainsaw “Druzhba” did not have chain lubrication at all and worked. So you can pour whatever you want - and it will do. Well, “Shtil” will also work with a working off or even with a non-lubricated chain. The question is how long it will work and how many chains will have to be replaced during this period.

A warning to those whose chainsaw is under warranty. Warranty workshop technicians are able to identify cases of poor-quality chain lubrication. Especially when using mining. Repairs under warranty will be rejected immediately.

Husqvarna chainsaw oil

, which is also a major manufacturer of chainsaws, produces its own set of lubricants for its equipment. Motor oil for Husqvarna chainsaws today is officially supplied to the Russian markets in only one form: Husqvarna HP.

Husqvarna HP gasoline chainsaw oil is a semi-synthetic product that fully complies with all requirements in force in the Russian Federation.

This lubricant goes well with equipment, but can also be successfully used in saws from other manufacturers. It has excellent lubricating properties and does not leave deposits on the parts of the cylinder-piston group.

How to dilute oil for a Husqvarna chainsaw and not make a mistake if there is no dispenser on the canisters with the products of this company? Here, all owners of gasoline saws are recommended to acquire a measuring container with a division value of 1 ml.

The fact is that both a lack and an excess of lubricant will have an equally negative impact on the service life of the piston group of a two-stroke engine. The deficiency will accelerate piston wear.

Please note: Scoring and grooves may appear on the piston and cylinder. An excess can lead to the formation of deposits and increased smoke, and the service life of the spark plug will be shortened. What lubricant should I use for Husqvarna equipment if it is not possible to purchase the original? The answer is simple: any with similar properties

Stihl products will also work.

  • BioPlus is a plant-based lubricant that is environmentally friendly. It is packaged in several types of containers, the price depends on its type, and is different in each region, starting from 444 rubles.
  • SynthPlus is a semi-synthetic oil, works even at minus 25 degrees, mixes well with BioPlus, which makes it easy to switch from one type of oil to another. Packaged in similar containers as the previous one. Price from 369 rub.

the saw chain with BioPlus oil, since other oils are intended for harsh conditions or work in the winter season.

All modern chainsaws have a separate oil circuit for lubricating the cutting elements of the chain.

The quality of saws depends largely on their condition and working conditions. Therefore, companies that produce accessories for chainsaws create special brands of oils that ensure reliable lubrication of the surface.

Preparing the fuel mixture for a chainsaw

Let's look at everything in order:

Petrol

Gasoline must have an octane number of at least AI92. You can also fill in AI95, but its quality at our gas stations leaves much to be desired, so if you are not sure of the quality of 95, then it is still better to take AI92 gasoline for diluting gasoline in a chainsaw. You should also not take gasoline that has been sitting for a long time in a canister, tank or any other container. Gasoline for preparing the fuel mixture for a chainsaw must be fresh, otherwise it loses its properties, in particular its octane number, and even if you run the chainsaw on such fuel, it will not produce full power. And the saddest thing in this case is that the failure of a chainsaw due to low-quality fuel is considered a non-warranty case and leads to expensive repairs. Sometimes it’s easier to buy a new chainsaw than to repair it after such a breakdown!

Read more about gasoline for chainsaws here:

Oil

Oil for 2-stroke engines according to the classification of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the American Petroleum Institute has the API-TB class, there are also API-TC class oils, but they are designed to work with lower loads than most common chainsaws. If you take the power class according to the Japan Automobile Standards Organization (JASO) classification, then focus on the JASO-FB and JASO FD classes (see Table 1 below.). Do not under any circumstances use oils for four-stroke engines! Remember that in a two-stroke engine the oil must burn completely, which means it is better to take synthetic oil, since it produces less smoke and combustion residues. And if you fill your chainsaw with oil for four-stroke engines, which will not burn completely and as a result carbon deposits will form, then your CPG will fail. The best thing to guide you when choosing oil for a chainsaw is the instructions for it.

Proportions

When preparing a fuel mixture of gasoline and chainsaw oil, be sure to check the manufacturer’s recommendations

Why is it so important to follow these recommended proportions? If the amount of oil in gasoline is small, the cylinder and piston will heat up and, accordingly, scuffing will occur, which means failure of the CPG and repair. If there is a lot of oil in gasoline, then this is carbon deposits and again failure. Each manufacturer has its own recommendations on proportions (see Table 2 below)

Try not to store the finished mixture for more than a month. Do not store it in direct sunlight or open. Avoid ingress of water and dust - this will lead to carburetor failure, since the fuel filter is often not able to completely clean the fuel.

Since they often come from search engines with queries like “how much oil to pour into 1,2,5 liters of gasoline,” I’m adding another table under No. 3 in which you can find out how much oil to add to gasoline according to the accepted proportions. The proportions can be found in Table 2 or, more precisely, in the instructions for your chainsaw.

Devices for diluting the fuel mixture

Of course, you can use a canister, syringe or measuring bottle, but there are more convenient options. It is worth noting here that, for example, Stihl oils are available in 2 types of packaging - with and without a dispenser. With a small difference in price, a bottle with a dispenser greatly simplifies the process of preparing the mixture. There are also many different canisters with a dispenser, with separate compartments for oil and gasoline. All these devices reduce the preparation time for starting and operating the chainsaw.

Stihl canister with compartments for oil and gasoline

This canister has two compartments for storing oil and gasoline separately. The gasoline container has a volume of 5 liters, and the oil container has a volume of 3 liters. Often, many owners of gas-powered tools with two-stroke engines carry oil in this canister in one compartment and a ready-made fuel mixture in the other.

Husqvarna canister with compartments for oil and fuel mixture.

Husqvarn canisters have a special feature: the oil container can be detached from the main one and used separately.

Basic rules of application

Two-stroke chainsaw oil is most often created on a mineral base. Less often it is synthetic or semi-synthetic. According to technology, oil for 2-stroke chainsaw engines is mixed with fuel before filling the tank.

Table of proportions

Pouring lubricant directly into the tank is also practiced, but this is not the most reliable way. Especially if the tank was completely empty. In this case, there is a possibility that gasoline will partially enter the system without lubrication. And the engine will run dry for some time.

The gasoline/oil ratio for chainsaws is strictly determined by the saw manufacturer. In some cases, oil manufacturers indicate their proportions. This is typical of expensive synthetic lubricants. And the gasoline/oil ratio in this case increases towards fuel.

If, when using a lubricant, it is discovered that a wet oil deposit remains on the spark plug, and dirty waste drips from the exhaust pipe, these are clear signs of incomplete combustion or the use of low-quality lubricant. It is necessary to reconsider the choice of motor oil for a chainsaw and the proportion of its use.

How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw

Let's look at how the mixture for a chainsaw is prepared. It is necessary to calculate the correct ratio of gasoline and oil for the chainsaw. For chainsaws, use fuel with a high octane rating: AI-92 or AI-95.

To prepare the fuel mixture, you need to add 30 g of oil to 1 liter of gasoline, which corresponds to the design of the saw. The resulting fuel liquid is poured into the fuel compartment. Before diluting gasoline, you should consult with service specialists who specialize in repairing chainsaws.

In order for the saw to have a long service life, it is necessary to properly prepare the gasoline-oil mixture, for which only grades AI-92 and AI-95 can be used. The fuel must be unleaded, otherwise the internal combustion engine may break down. You should not use an old product that has expired, because over time the fuel may change its octane number. The proportion of lubricant and fuel is strictly maintained.

You should not skimp when choosing oil for chainsaws of the Husqvarna brand and others. The proportions must be observed due to the fact that excess oil can lead to the growth of carbon deposits on the chainsaw components. Excess gasoline can cause piston damage and engine failure. So, 1 liter of fuel is mixed with 20-50 ml of oil. Husqvarna recommends adding 100 ml of lubricant to 4 liters of gasoline. This proportion is suitable for saws with a power of up to 1.5 kW.

For structures with a power of more than 1.5 kW, an oil proportion of 1:50 is used. That is, you need to dilute gasoline like this: add 5 liters of chainsaw gasoline per 100 ml of oil. When refueling a chainsaw, Partner recommends diluting the fuel fluid at the following rates: add 100 ml of lubricant per 3.3 liters of fuel.

When using supersynthetic oils, the ratio is 1:100. That is, the fuel mixture for a chainsaw must be prepared according to the recipe: add 100 ml of lubricant to 1 liter of fuel. When choosing components, you need to use the information that is given in the instructions for any modification of the saw.

Let's consider in what container you can mix fuel. In stores there are canisters with measuring divisions, in which there are 2 holes: for fuel and for lubricant. Using such a canister, you should pour both ingredients, screw on the lids and mix the substances, tilting the canister in different directions.

Plastic bottles and other containers are often used to mix ingredients. You should be careful with plastic and glass. Static electricity may occur when mixing components. It is necessary to ensure that no pebbles, sand or drops of water get into the fuel mixture. The fuel mixture must be mixed well. The prepared fuel mixture cannot be stored for more than a month, as oxidation of the materials may occur and the composition of the mixture may change.

Engine failure caused by expired fuel is considered non-warranty by the service. In this case, the cost of repairs can reach 80% of the price of a new structure.

After all the work using the chainsaw has been completed, you need to use up the remaining fuel, turn off the engine, and remove the remaining mixture.

For the best operation of the device, it is necessary to make a mixture that will ensure uninterrupted operation of the engine and complete combustion of the gasoline-oil mixture without causing soot, smoke or damage.

Review of engine oil manufacturers

Among the manufacturers producing the best two-stroke oils, we can confidently name 2 leaders - these are the companies Husqvarna (Husvarna) and Stihl (Shtil). Companies produce not only conventional mineral oils, but also synthetic lubricants designed for 2-stroke engines operating in harsh conditions.

Husqvarna HP

This is a Swedish manufacturer, which includes several well-known brands, including the Partner company, known for its garden equipment for semi-professional and professional use. Husqvarna produces not only equipment, but also high-quality lubricants used on almost all brands of power tools.

The photo below shows Husqvarna HP 2-stroke oil, which contains special additives that can compensate for poor fuel quality, which is not uncommon in our country. After all, the octane number of gasoline purchased at a gas station does not always correspond to the declared one.

This lubricant is green in color and contains a semi-synthetic base. It can be packaged in both 10-liter and liter containers. The mixture is diluted in a standard proportion of 1:50 (20 g per 1 liter of gasoline). But when the engine has not yet been broken in, or work is to be done in the cold, the proportion can be increased to 1:40.

Stihl HP

The lubricant was specially developed for engines of Stihl equipment. It has a mineral base, has high lubricating and cleaning abilities and can be used at an ambient temperature of at least -10°C.

The bottle has a special dispenser that allows you to mix the fuel mixture without using additional measuring containers.

The lubricant is red in color and can be stored for no more than 4 years in a closed container. The latter can have different capacities, both large and small (for one-time refilling). For example, there is a 20-gram container on sale, the contents of which are added to 1 liter of gasoline. This is a very convenient option for owners of chainsaws who use them occasionally. Important: the mixture of gasoline with this oil cannot be stored for more than 1 month, since during this time it will already lose its lubricating properties.

Stihl HP Ultra

The oil belongs to the highest category. It is created on a completely synthetic base, has a green color and has high lubricating properties, and thanks to salt-free additives it does not create soot.

The oil was specially developed for lubrication of engines operating for long periods of time at high loads and low ambient temperatures, down to -25°C. In addition, this lubricant does not harm the environment. If it is spilled on the ground, it will decompose by 80% in 21 days. The lubricant is packaged in 100 ml and 1 liter bottles.

Rules for preparing the mixture

Even experienced lumberjacks do not always correctly prepare the fuel mixture for a chainsaw if the work is done in a hurry.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • prepare a plastic container holding 2.5 liters or less;
  • a measuring container must be present - many people use a regular medical syringe;
  • First, fuel is poured into the container, and then a precisely measured portion of oil;
  • The final task is to carefully dissolve the oil product by actively shaking the consistency.

It is recommended to store the finished flammable product for 14 days. If more, the oil will settle to the bottom of the container. A new shake of consistency will be required. Busy people often forget about this.

Consequences of using low-quality oil

Serious manufacturers of chainsaws indicate directly in the instructions for their products which oil to use with the device. Naturally, the company of the related products will be the same. This is not only a marketing ploy, but also a practical recommendation. Companies that have been producing saws for many years have sufficient production capacity and produce really good oils.

For many household chainsaw models, such advice is not available. The user equips the gas tank at his own discretion. And here it is also better to choose a quality product, tested by thousands of owners of gasoline units. Even an inexpensive saw with the correct operating modes and proper selection of consumables can last for more than one year. And vice versa: an unnamed oil of unknown composition can “kill” even a good Stihl or Husqvarna piston group.

If the exhaust system of the saw becomes clogged with particles of burning and soot, then the engine power will inevitably drop. Purge of the combustion chamber can no longer be carried out so intensively, most of the exhaust gases remain in the cylinder, and the fuel pump does not have enough strength to pump the required amount of mixture.

Incomplete combustion of the oil component in gasoline leads to the deposition of soot and carbon deposits in the cylinder and on the bottom of the piston. Poor fluidity indicators lead to heating of the cylinder-piston group, during which scuffing can form on the surface of the working parts. After several cycles of such work, it may be necessary to replace the piston.

Let's talk about the device for supplying oil directly to the chain

First of all, I would like to emphasize that all chainsaws from the manufacturer Shtil are quite small in size, but, nevertheless, they are very powerful. It is these features that attract potential buyers of this type of equipment to the models of this company. Moreover, you can easily perform various types of manipulations with this device regarding work with wood (see how to cut down a tree).

Device for supplying oil to the chain

In addition, Stihl chainsaws have a high level of cutting ability . Moreover, this equipment is equipped with the latest accessories (see Attachment for a grinder chainsaw), which further contribute to the convenience and ease of use. But actually, let's talk directly about the device itself, which the manufacturer equipped its chainsaws with. So, the direct chain lubrication system of the Stihl chainsaw consists of:

  • Guide tires;
  • Saw chains;
  • Oil pump.

It is worth noting that the direct oil supply through the pump has special adjustment . Another important fact is that the chain is lubricated throughout the operation of the chainsaw. It is for this reason that this part serves its owner for quite a long time.

Undoubtedly, during operation the chain must be systematically lubricated, so oil for its direct lubrication must be continuously supplied to its surface. Since this is the entire direct design of the instrument.

During operation of the device, oil directly begins to come out of the tire groove and is immediately absorbed by sawdust.

That is why the process of lubrication of the chain area is carried out automatically . But it is worth noting that there are models that have a so-called “dosage” of oil, which must be supplied directly to the chain. And naturally, models whose price category is quite low have only a manual pump that operates directly through the action of a drive, which is located on the handle.
