Pipeline clamp supports

The clamp support is one of the simplest supports in design, but reliable in its functionality. Depending on the layout, pipeline clamp supports can be movable, sliding or stationary. Easy to assemble, install and maintain, clamp supports are the most popular and occupy their rightful place in this market segment. Pipeline clamp supports are used for fastening process pipelines for a wide range of purposes and various diameters. The material of the supports also varies depending on the conditions when using prefabricated supports. The northern version 09G2S or the usual st. 3 for clamp supports is provided.

Features of support and guide products

Conventional pipeline supports perform a number of functions. Their main “duty” is to fix the structure. In addition, thanks to the sliding supports, linear expansion of the pipeline has no consequences. And the support-guide rings allow the internal pipeline to be pulled through the outer communication part (case) without causing any harm to it.

Based on this, we can identify several main functions that are carried out thanks to just such a support:

  • protection of the pipeline from various damages;
  • protection of coupling joints and welds;
  • simple and quick pulling of the pipeline through the case;
  • support for the supply pipe;
  • cathodic protection against corrosion (thanks to this detail, the possibility of contact between the metal frames of two pipes is eliminated).

Note! The use of such rings makes it possible to pull various pipelines that differ in material, diameter, etc. These supports help maintain the integrity of communications both during pulling and subsequent operation.

Installation of these rings is carried out at the assembly stage of the pipeline itself. Their installation does not require the use of special equipment, since the support ring is fixed using electric arc welding. The most common materials for such supports are high-quality polypropylene and steel.

The design feature of the supports makes it easier and faster to pull the inner pipe into the outer one

Design and types of clamp supports

The single- or double-clamp version of the supports is determined by the technological features of a particular pipeline and depends on the loads and operating conditions.

The clamps are welded to the load-bearing part of the support with a continuous seam and secure the pipe. In some cases, to prevent the pipe from “slipping,” special metal plates are welded to it - “crackers”, which, resting against the surface of the clamp, prevent unwanted movement of the pipe in the axial direction. The clamp support can support both axial and lateral loads.

The second part of the clamp support, the stops, are located on different sides of the supporting structure and are welded to the pipeline using continuous seam welding. As the weight of the pipes increases, the stops are structurally strengthened accordingly.

Performance properties of the sliding support

The sliding support is made of steel and has additional insulation that protects it from chemical and other negative influences. The main performance qualities of such clamp supports:

  • strength, reliability;
  • long service life;
  • ease of installation;
  • a wide selection of modifications, making it possible to select the most suitable support for specific operating conditions.

The support structure consists of a strong, rigid base and semicircular elements (clamps) into which the pipe is placed and tightly secured. The support skids allow the pipe to move along the guides in the horizontal plane, and in the vertical plane they hold it in a given position. The sliding support kit also includes connecting elements that ensure reliable fixation of the support and its elements.

Clamp supports are divided into:

Housing clamp supports

They can be movable or immobile. The body of the clamp housing supports is made of a stamped bracket. The clamps for such supports can be made of a rod or strip (round clamp and flat clamp). Clamp supports with a round clamp are used exclusively in steel pipelines, while clamp supports with a flat clamp can also be used in pipelines with various insulations. Housing clamp supports for pipelines are manufactured in strict accordance with OST 36-146-88.

Frameless clamp supports

They can be either movable or immobile. The fixed version of clamp supports is called: clamp guide supports.

Yoke clamp supports

In such pipeline supports, the clamps are reinforced by welding stiffeners.

Sliding clamp supports

This type of pipeline clamp supports can only be movable and only absorb vertical loads from the mass of the heating mains. The clamp support is equipped with an additional insulating gasket that protects the support from unwanted aggressive environments and compensates for various technical shortcomings in the design and construction of heating mains. Sliding clamp supports are one of the most common supports of this type, due to their reliability and efficiency at low cost.

Operating principle

With the exception of units TU 1468-001-00151756, most designs of pipeline supports can be either movable or fixed. The main problem with long steel structures remains the linear expansion of the structural material.

Therefore, for the most part, movable supports are installed under the pipes to compensate for vertical and lateral loads:

  • soil swelling;
  • soil shedding in certain areas;
  • subsidence of soils with low design resistance;
  • snow and wind loads;
  • seismic activity of the region;
  • water pressure when a floodplain is flooded or an overpass passes along the bottom of a reservoir.

Fixed supports are installed at nodal points, providing a safety margin for the entire pipeline as a whole. The greater the vertical loads the sliding supports experience, the higher the friction force during longitudinal displacement of the pipes and the wear, respectively. The following values of friction forces are taken in the calculations:

  • steel/fluoroplastic – 0.1;
  • steel/steel – 0.3;
  • steel/concrete – 0.5.

In some cases, the coefficient of friction between steel and steel can reach 0.7 units. Misalignment of the shoes relative to the supporting surfaces leads to a sharp increase in contact stresses.

In most sliding supports, friction occurs between the surface of the pipes and individual elements of the assembly unit. The exception is supports for welding (welding) and with gaskets made of polymeric materials. In the first case, welding allows you to shift the emphasis, the parts of the support itself rub against each other, the pipe does not experience such loads. In the second option, the gaskets, which are consumable items, wear out.

Benefits of support rings

Support rings, like any other product, have their own advantages. The main advantages of this device include:

  • friction indicators when using these polymer devices are reduced to a minimum, so they are considered very reliable;
  • thanks to the first point, the protective coating of the pipeline is not damaged during the process of pulling it through the case;
  • the speed of installation work is quite high, which reduces the cost of building a highway;
  • such supports make it possible to extend the service life of communications as a whole, since contact between pipes is eliminated and the corrosive effect is reduced;
  • the supply pipe can be removed if such a need arises;
  • the transverse ribs that make up this support may differ in size. This allows internal communication to be carried out in the center of a protective case of any diameter;
  • polypropylene is a reliable insulating material and provides reliable cathodic protection of the pipeline.

Supports 313.TS-008.012 in a case

FSO movable steel clamp supports type 313.TS-008.015 belong to the class of case-type supports (laying supports in a case). Sliding clamp supports for PPU pipelines in cases are actively used when laying process pipelines and utility networks. The case type of clamp supports is used with various types of supports and allows you to stabilize the entire structure of a given structure. In production, especially strong high-quality steel is used for welding supports of the 313.TS-008.015 series, which allows the use of such pipeline elements in various climatic conditions, with high humidity levels and temperature changes. These supports are coated with a special anti-corrosion coating, which reliably protects them from rust and bacterial attack.

Conventional designation of supports 313TS in a case - Support 313.TS-008.015 100/180, where the sliding clamp support of the PPU pipeline in insulation for laying in the case is made according to drawing 313.TS-008.015 with a nominal pipe diameter DN=100mm, clamp diameter Dx= 180mm.

The 313.ts case support is manufactured in production in compliance with all technological norms and standards, which is confirmed by passports and certificates of the manufacturer. The type of supports is simple but effective, it has a welded structure - high-strength clamps are attached to a solid base, which are adjusted using nuts. The base itself has additional stiffening ribs, which can give the structure the ability to withstand high loads. Supports of this type reliably fix and maintain its integrity along the entire length of the route, allow you to limit and compensate for the displacement of the pipe as a result of various external forces, without any harm to its insulation. Such forces can include both strong vertical and horizontal loads and the expansion temperature of the pipe. The use of movable clamp-type supports allows you to protect the pipeline from sagging and creating an emergency situation during use.

Series TD-1-487-1997.00.000 designed for the design, manufacture and installation of underlay sliding supports for underground (in cases and duct) and above-ground installation of heating pipelines with a diameter of 50 to 1000 mm in a polyurethane foam shell according to TU 5768-001-23085909-97 and TU 5768-001-11146497- 97.

Supports for pipes in polyurethane foam (PPU) insulation have some design features. PPU supports have wider clamps and an increased length of the support pad to avoid damage to the integrity of the casing and insulation from the pipe’s own weight when they are fixed. When laying pipelines, there are situations when it is necessary to install supports in insulation; in this case, after installing the pipeline, the attachment points to the supports are covered with thermal insulation.

FSO1 is a sliding support in a case, designed for installation on a straight section of an underground pipeline to fix it at a certain height with the possibility of longitudinal movement to compensate for thermal expansion or contraction, as well as vibration effects.

FSO1 supports protect the thermal insulation coating of the pipeline from damage and ensure longitudinal movement of the pipeline from temperature deformations and vibrations where it is provided for by the design. The supports only support vertical loads from the mass of the heating mains. In addition, FSO1 supports compensate for various technical shortcomings in the design and construction of heating mains. For better performance, they are often equipped with additional protection against corrosion and stray currents.

FSO1 supports are made from hot-rolled sheets using guillotine cutting and clamps welded with a continuous seam. The holders are fastened using bolts and nuts, and a protective coating is applied to the finished sliding support.

FSO1 supports are manufactured for pipes ranging in size from 57 to 1020 mm and in three versions depending on the height of the shoe: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm.

The maximum pitch between pipeline supports in polyurethane foam insulation is: DN 50 - 5.0 m, DN 70 - 5.5 m, DN 80 - 6.0 m, DN 100 - 7.0 m, DN 125 - 8.0 m, DN 150 - 9, 0m.

FSO1 are installed on support pads (OP) with metal pads, which prevents the support from sliding on concrete; 2-3 layers of insulation with a protrusion of at least 15 mm in each direction should be laid under the support shoe.

Designation example: FSO1 133/225/426, where

133 - outer diameter of steel pipe; 225 — outer diameter of the shell-pipe; 426 is the diameter of the case.

Specifications

PMC is distinguished by its strength characteristics. The materials used in the production of such support rings are capable of withstanding pressure levels of at least 120 kg/cm². The rollers used in some types of support products are also very strong and reliable and can withstand loads of 200 to 300 kg.

Such supports are highly durable and are used when laying highways in any conditions.

Support guide rings (SRU) are used for installation of transitions with cross-sectional dimensions up to 1420 mm. Laying pipes in cases can be done in different climatic conditions. Temperatures at which installation work is permitted vary depending on the specific region, from –40 to +50 °C.

Helpful information! Such rings are securely fixed on the pipes and do not move during installation work and operation of the structure.
