The Ural 2T Electron chainsaw is designed for use in difficult conditions and for operations with large-sized trees and workpieces made from them. The most applicable areas are felling and bucking trees. The device can be used in aggressive conditions at critical low and high temperatures. The saw is mobile and does not depend on a power source. For long-term storage it is preserved using fuels and lubricants.
Chainsaw Ural 2T Electron
Description
Chainsaws "Ural" are products of a Russian machine-building plant located in the city of Perm. Currently, production has been moved to the city of Biysk. The Ural chainsaw is a kind of improved version of the Druzhba chainsaw, which was very popular several decades ago. Now Druzhba chainsaws are used more for domestic purposes, while Ural saws are produced for professional purposes.

The first Ural chainsaw was released in 1935, since then the manufacturer’s product range has expanded significantly, the range of chainsaws is represented by both household and professional models with two-stroke gasoline engines. The advantages of Ural chainsaws over domestic analogues are the following technical characteristics:
- the ability to work for a long time on fuel of any quality (even medium-purified gasoline is suitable);
- omnivorous oils (any oil is suitable for 2T gasoline engines);
- large selection of spare parts and their reasonable cost;
- easy setup of the chainsaw;
- availability of models for specific tasks (household, professional, semi-professional);
- powerful motors, the ability to withstand intense loads, operation at any time of the year at any temperature.
Chainsaw Ural 2T Electron
The purpose of Ural chainsaws is very wide: tools of this category are successfully used in sawmills, sawmills, logging industries, in everyday life, and for municipal needs. Suitable for remodeling, can be used as a technique for harvesting firewood, cutting boards and beams. Another area of exploitation: construction of wooden houses, baths, saunas, cottages.
Chainsaw Ural 2T Electron is a saw for professional use. Equipped with a gasoline engine with a power of 5.5 horsepower. This power is equivalent to 4045 W. The saw is used for working with large-diameter trees, for harvesting wood, and for felling trees. Owners of the Ural 2T Electron chainsaw often talk about the possibility of converting this tool into a more universal one, for example, the Ural 2T Electron is often converted into a boat motor.

This “second life” for the device is made possible thanks to the sustainability of the materials, high power and functionality of the device. Some owners even install a 2T Electron motor on a moped or snowmobile, or a household snow blower. The technical characteristics of the engine are such that it operates successfully in both cold and wet weather. Such homemade units, according to reviews from owners, are in no way inferior to the original equipment.
Chainsaw "Ural"
A chainsaw is a hand-held tool equipped with an internal combustion engine. The handle helps you hold it in your hands, and the working part is the tire. The tool is quite mobile, so it is indispensable for private farming and logging.
Simple household saws have a somewhat simplified structure, which makes them easy to use by the average person without experience. But its operating conditions are milder - the operating time per month is no more than 20 hours. Professional units, for example, “Ural”, are wide-profile and the conditions in which they can be used are much more severe, including operating time.
Initially, the Ural chainsaw was designed as a highly specialized professional tool for forestry. Therefore, its sister chainsaw “Druzhba” is more familiar to the private user, while the “Ural” is used mainly by professional fellers. Its productivity provided 80% of domestic logging. The first Ural chainsaw saw the world in 1935, and in 2005 the plant named after F.I. Dzerzhinsky produced the 14 millionth unit of this equipment.
What is the difference between the Ural and Druzhba chainsaws?
Although both of these saws are similar in many ways, they have a number of differences:
- “Ural” has a higher power rating - 5 horsepower, in comparison, “Druzhba” has only 4 hp;
- The Ural's light weight of 11 kg (Druzhba's is 12.5) makes the tool more convenient to use;
- “Ural” is equipped with a gearbox capable of turning the saw bar 90 degrees, which greatly facilitates felling of timber;
- The upper handles of the “Ural” allow you to work even with a large thickness of the snow layer. In addition, the operator’s back practically does not tolerate overload;
- The Ural chainsaw has been improved with a hydraulic wedge for felling trees in the required direction. A chain lubrication system has also been introduced, which was not present in the previous model.
Automatic chain lubrication allows you to work with very high productivity. It is interesting that lumberjacks thought of replacing the Ural sawing mechanism with a Stihl one, receiving increased productivity from such a modification.
Disadvantages of the Ural chainsaw
Of course, like any unit, with all its advantages, the Ural chainsaw also has its disadvantages:
- Soot from the engine while operating the tool. Even taking into account the rather high position of the handles, the logger often has to breathe not the aromas of the forest, but the smoke;
- Excessively large mesh from the air filter, unlike foreign brands. Thus, the domestic unit has a grid cell in tenths of a millimeter, and foreign ones in fractions of a micron. This fact significantly reduces the productivity of the tool;
- Increased proportions of gasoline and oil 20:1 compared to imported models operating at 50:1;
- Periodic problems with gearbox failure and engine jamming;
- The saw does not have a chain brake.
But you can also find positive aspects among factors that at first glance seem to be negative. For example, the engine parts of the Ural chainsaw are not as meticulously fitted as those of a foreign unit. For this reason, the ingress of small debris does not cause much harm, burning inside.
Professional for home
The Ural chainsaw can also be successfully used as a home assistant. It will do an excellent job with routine pruning of trees, sawing firewood, as well as when working with any wood. It can make cuts both across the fibers and along them. Almost no weather conditions frighten this instrument, but within -40 and +40 degrees Celsius. There is nothing overly complicated in servicing a chainsaw - refueling with a mixture of gasoline and oil.

Later, you can adjust the carburetor as needed by the owner.
Rules for safe operation of the Ural 2T Electron chainsaw
- protect all parts of the body from damage when working with a chainsaw (it is recommended to use special protective shields for the right hand, as well as anti-vibration gloves, glasses or a plastic one-piece mask for the whole face, headphones to suppress noise);
- do not smoke when operating a chainsaw, smoking may cause a fire;
- Keep animals or children away from the area where the chainsaw is used;
- always turn off the tool if visual contact with the surface being cut is not possible;
- use the correct ratio for mixing oil and gasoline (for Ural chainsaws this ratio is 1:25);
- Perform tool maintenance in a timely manner and ensure that there is oil available to lubricate the chain.
Chainsaw maintenance
- regular maintenance - after completion of work and before starting sawing;
- monitor the condition of the chain, the degree of lubrication of the chain and blade, the presence of burrs on the chain sprockets;
- change the fuel mixture on time, use high-quality oil, good gasoline - this will extend the life of the chainsaw;
- It is recommended to adjust the carburetor after running in the tool (after the first 5 hours of operation) and then perform it as necessary.

Main malfunctions of the model and their elimination
Let's look at the main reasons why a chainsaw refuses to work, as well as possible ways to eliminate such problems.
- The Ural 2T Electron chainsaw does not want to start or starts stalling right during operation.
The reason for this malfunction may be the following: clogged filters, low-quality fuel, low oil, insufficient lubrication on the saw blade.
Solving the problem: cleaning the filters, monitoring the level of fuel and lubricants.
- Sawing occurs with difficulty; as a result of the operation of the chainsaw, only small chips are formed.
Reason: Chain needs to be sharpened.
Sharpen with a special file or replace the chain.
Main features of the Ural chainsaw
The Ural chainsaw appeared in 1935. Since then, it has become widespread in the USSR, and after its collapse - in the CIS countries. Subsequently, the manufacturer made a number of improvements to the design of this tool. The new model, made of high-strength materials, is called the Ural-2T-Electron chainsaw. It is designed for use in harsh conditions in any season of the year at extremely low and high temperatures. Using a Ural chainsaw, large trees are felled and sawed. It consists of the following main nodes:
- motor;
- clutch;
- saw unit;
- frame with handles;
- engine starting system.
The tool is mobile and standalone. Although it is equipped with a vibration damping system, the vibration during operation of the chain saw is still high. For this reason, forest fellers are instructed to use the Ural chainsaw no longer than one and a half hours a day. This measure helps prevent the development of occupational diseases caused by harmful working conditions.
In addition, this device is inferior to imported equipment in the following respects:
- the Ural chainsaw engine operates with increased gas generation, so that the operator is forced to remain in a gas-filled environment for a long time;
- servicing the device requires experience and skill;
- there is no chain brake;
- the device uses a mixture enriched with oil twice as strong as compared to foreign gas-powered tools;
- increased fuel consumption.
At the same time, the Ural chainsaw has a number of advantages that allow it to compete with imported models:
- reliability;
- the ability to easily carry out both longitudinal and cross cuts;
- high handles allowing you to work at full height without bending over;
- low cost.
Owner reviews
Roman, Krasnodar:
“I used an Electron 2T chainsaw while I had the opportunity, then I made a small modification and made myself a snow blower. This homemade product was very useful to me in everyday life. I had to tinker, and I needed to set up a lot of things and buy additional parts, but I managed. Now I use a snow blower with a 2T engine, it helps a lot in winter. Instead of the Urals, I bought another model of chainsaw, a German one. I was satisfied with the quality of the domestic chainsaw, but it was time to change something. I don't regret the new purchase. The Urals also have their pros and cons.
Among the disadvantages, I can highlight the heavy weight, the saw is more for professionals than for beginners, as well as high fuel consumption.
Advantages: power, functionality, technical parameters.”

It is necessary to carry out timely running-in of the engine for long-term and reliable operation. The initial start of the engine must be done at idle speed without load, that is, without using a saw for cutting. Moreover, use an enriched composition of the fuel mixture.
For break-in, it is enough to use up four tanks of fuel. Afterwards, you can start working, but using the same rich mixture. This will protect the engine from breakdowns, cylinder scuffing and will allow all moving parts to run in better.
How much horsepower and engine power
The Ural 2 Electron chain saw is a professional-level tool. Engine power after the recommended 24-hour break-in is 5.5 horsepower. This is the equivalent of 4.05 kW, which is a very good power indicator. Therefore, owners of such saws often convert the chainsaw motor into a boat motor.

Carburetor adjustment
Adjusting the idle speed of the chainsaw engine.
The adjustment is made by changing the quality and quantity of the combustible mixture entering the engine cylinder. The amount of mixture is changed by screw 3 (Figure 1), which limits the rotation of the throttle valve control lever 1 towards its closing. The quality of the mixture is changed with screw 1 (Figure 2) of the carburetor. When adjusting engine idle speed, you should be guided by the following requirements:
a) The engine should idle steadily and the saw chain should not move along the bar.
b) There should be no strong smoke when the engine is running.
c) The engine should have good throttle response, that is, when the throttle control lever is pressed sharply, it should quickly gain speed.
d) It is recommended to adjust the idle speed in the following sequence: - start the engine and warm it up at low and medium speeds. Use screw 3 (Figure 1) to set the minimum stable speed at which the saw chain does not move along the bar. If the engine smokes heavily (a sign of an excessively rich mixture), then partially tighten screw 1 of the carburetor. At the same time, the engine speed will increase and the exhaust smoke will decrease; — after this, you should again set the minimum, stable engine speed by partially unscrewing screw 3 (Figure 1); — after this adjustment, it is necessary to check the engine response. To do this, sharply press the throttle control lever for 2-3 seconds until it stops. In this case, the engine should quickly gain momentum. If the engine stalls or has a “drop” in power, that is, it slowly picks up speed (lean mixture), then it is necessary to partially unscrew screw 1 of the carburetor. Engine speed will decrease. To increase the idle speed, screw 3 must be partially tightened. Check engine response again; — upon completion of the adjustment, secure screw 3 with locknuts 2 (Figure 1).
4.5.2 Adjusting the engine for maximum power
This adjustment should be made after a 25-hour run-in of the chainsaw in operation and after adjusting the engine idle speed. The adjustment is made with screw 2 (Figure 2) of the carburetor, by making the combustible mixture leaner or richer at engine operating mode. When the screw is partially screwed in, the mixture becomes lean; when unscrewed, it becomes richer. The most advantageous position of the carburetor screw 2 is determined experimentally by checking the operation of the chainsaw when sawing wood. In this case, you should be guided by the following requirements for the operation of a chainsaw.
a) The chainsaw engine must develop power that ensures high sawing performance with moderate exhaust smoke.
b) The chainsaw engine must have good throttle response, must not overheat, slow down and stop when sawing wood (overheating of the engine is a sign of an excessively lean mixture and engine overload). Due to lack of experience, there may be cases of complete misadjustment of the carburetor, in which case the chainsaw stops working normally and starting the engine becomes difficult.
Chainsaw repair Ural 2
Any tool can fail over time. This is an indisputable fact. It should, however, be noted that repairing the Ural 2 electron chainsaw mainly comes down to working with the engine. Such units in the saw can stall under a certain load, hold idle speed poorly, and so on.
The reason the saw stops working immediately after it starts may be a faulty carburetor. It will have to adjust the jets in order to receive the appropriate fuel supply.
When a heated engine stalls, most likely you will have to change the pistons, spark plugs, or clean the air filter. It must be said that a fully serviceable motor in a saw simply must work without jerking. If a ringing knock is heard during its operation, this may indicate a malfunctioning cylinder.
Video: carburetor adjustment
The Ural 2 Electron chainsaw has long established itself as an excellent workhorse, with high performance, ease of repair and reasonable cost. Almost the only thing that can happen to this tool during proper operation is that the carburetor settings are lost.

Your main assistant should be the instruction manual. If you have lost it, you can contact the dealer of the company whose chainsaw you use; they will provide you with instructions in electronic form.
So, before each time you turn on a gasoline chain saw, be sure to check that the chain is in good condition, whether its teeth are sharpened, and whether it is well tensioned (does not sag, but is not too tight, it can be pulled a little away from the blade).
You can sharpen the chain using a special machine or a file with a special template (depending on the tooth pitch of the chain, there are different templates).
Every time after use, the chainsaw must be cleaned: the chain, bar, air filter, housing, cooling fins, cracks and other grooves are cleaned of sawdust. After using the saw, turn the bar over so that it wears evenly, lubricate the sprocket (if there are grooves for lubrication in the front of the saw).
During long-term storage, be sure to drain the fuel and oil! The chain and the bus form an electrochemical pair, so they rust together and must be stored separately.
